...My compliments, by the way, on the C++ Programmer's Guide to the STL. It has to be one of the best books (if not the best) I've seen on the topic. Really got the whole subject straight for me, and I like your writing style. I'll probably pick up the compression book if I can find it...

Mr. Nelson,

I have nearly finished reading your book and felt that your effort deserved my compliments...

Not only have you explained STL specifically but templates in general-- and why I should be using them. It's all very exiciting and I have already put the STL to work in a project under construction... The time I saved already paid for the book and the time spent reading it!

Mark Nelson's "The C++ Programmer's Guide to the STL" is the Petzold of STL books. ...

…Your STL book is really a joy to read. I've taught several C++ courses and have recommended your book to students and colleagues. Packed with good information and written in a comfortable style, it makes an excellent reference. It is also one of the most detailed presentations I have yet seen on STL.

Good Job!

Roldan

That book is indeed a good read and it's what got me going with the whole STL paradigm…

…What struck me about it was that it wasn't _just_ a tutorial. Instead of just telling you how to use it, the book actually _explored_ the STL, providing the code and spec for it in the book. More importantly, STL code snippets are scattered throughout the book with explanations. Also, he goes to some lengths to explain internal workings, and to benchmark the classes, so you know, _specifically_ how each of the similar classes differs from one another…

... Can't say enough good things about your STL book. Your writing style is very readable, your "under the hood" explanations are clear and understandable, and your exposition of some of the subtleties of C++ was quite an education (and I thought I new C++ well…).

Not only was the book an excellent work for STL, I'd say it is one of the best books on any computer subject in many years. It reminds me of the books by Elliot Organik.

Thanks for writing it!

Jeff
